Bogotá-based Jazz guitarist and composer Juan Dhas is releasing his new album, Aether. The ethereal adventure, featuring tracks “Socotra,” “Scarlet Thread,” and “Communion,” is available on all streaming platforms and Bandcamp on 24/05/2024.

Aether is composed and performed by Juan Dhas, produced by Anthony Muthurajah & Juan Dhas, with bass and piano by Anthony Muthurajah (Sri Lanka), piano and synth by Santiago Bosch (Venezuela), percussion by Patrick Duke Graney (USA), and drums by Quique Ramírez (Spain) and Antonio Fusco (Italy). Featuring a powerful newfound focus on rhythm and strong, memorable melodies, Dhas builds on his diverse and wide-ranging global influences to express one’s travels through love, loyalty, and identity.

“The process of writing and creating this album was marked by global geographical changes, with each collaborator, including myself, scattered around the world,” Dhas recounts. “This led to exposure to music from Latin America, the Middle East/North Africa and the Mediterranean. Musically, Aether signifies uncharted territory in my musical path, with the addition of vocals and a deeper exploration of rhythm and refining my melodic approach from previous albums.”

Aether weaves together many stories: my departure and return to Colombia, the conflict I felt about my heritage (Half-Colombian, Half-Indian), tales of romance, belonging, spirituality, mythology, and astrology.”

“I hope to bring together those who exist in the Aether to experience it fully and wholly, as I have while traversing this beautiful world and all that lies beyond it.”

Aether follows the 2022 single “Traced in Sand,” as well as the singles “Nomad”, “For A Chapter Closed, and Another Begun”, “Heartbeat” (2021), crowdfunded album Catharsis (2018), and the 2014 release of Juan Dhas’ debut 7-track album, Embracing Clarity.
